Dogs are known to be the most loyal and loving pets one can have and they make great companions. They are also known for their intelligence and can be trained to do variety of tasks.

Their cleanliness is more than just a matter of looks it is one of the keys to their overall health and wellbeing.

Here are some reasons why you should wash your dog more often suggested by a study from the Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI’s)– their mission is to encourage collaboration between scientists, the public, and the media to increase awareness of the health benefits for pets and to promote human-animal interaction.

  • Washing your dog will keep it clean and smelling fresh.
  • Reducing the risk of skin infections and parasites.
  • Removes dirt, mud, and other debris that can build up on your dog’s coat.
  • Promotes a healthy and shiny coat.
  • Helps prevent fleas, ticks, and other pests.

The above-mentioned source also add that it is important to choose the right shampoo and other products for your dog’s coat and skin type. Using the wrong shampoo might cause dryness and irritation.

Human Animal Bond Research Institute suggests that it is also important that you use the right tools and techniques when bathing your dog.

For example, using a rubber or silicone brush to massage the shampoo into your dog’s coat can help distribute it evenly and remove any loose fur. A high-pressure showerhead can also be helpful for rinsing your dog’s coat thoroughly. Lastly, using a towel or blow dryer to dry your dog’s coat can help reduce the amount of time they spend wet and shivering.
