Controversial Springbok rugby player Elton Jantjies made headlines again this week, and once again not for his abilities on the field.
The 33–year-old appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court where his former girlfriend Ashleigh Ogle sought a permanent protection order against him.
The South African reported that Ashleigh, a media personality and gender-based violence activist (GBV), dated Elton last year and claimed he had threatened to kill her during their months-long relationship.
Elton, who was in the Joburg court, consented to the protection order.
Their relationship ended on a sour note when Ashleigh released a statement on social media, saying: “I have endured things no woman deserves, I was deluded and chose to believe in him until numerous reliable sources brought information to my attention that could have implicated me.”
In response, Elton claimed they were never in an exclusive relationship and that Ashleigh was using him for publicity.
Elton’s life has been in the spotlight for a while: he has been estranged from his wife Iva Ristic since claims in 2022 that he had an affair with Boks’ dietician Zeenat Simjee. The former couple share three children.
Earlier this week Fame Frenzy reported that Iva had a new boyfriend after a snap of them was shared although the dark-haired man’s face was not in full view.
Elton could be making a return to professional rugby. He was slapped with a four-year doping sanction by the SA Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) in August last year.
The ban was called into question after the World Anti-Doping Agency suspended the South African Doping Control Laboratory’s accreditation in Bloemfontein, Planet Rugby reported.
