False lashes are a great beauty find because they let you change your look instantly and allow you to enhance your make-up. Lash expert and beauty therapist Ruth Atkins shares all we need to know about false lashes.
When choosing artificial eyelashes, here are the main things to consider:
1. The occasion. The later in the evening the event, the fuller your lashes should be.
2. Your eye shape and make-up style. Lashes can compliment or contrast them depending on what look you are going for.
3. The colour. Some styles are a mix of brown and black hairs or just plain black which gives your lashes deeper colour and definition.
Dos and Don’ts
Don’t:
- use a small amount of glue as this might cause them to fall off
- be afraid to cut and customise them to your liking
- wait until the event before you test them, have a practice run using the starter kit and spare lashes
Do:
- get them central to the eye and as close as possible to the natural lash line
- apply eyeliner first if you find that getting the lash close to the natural lash is difficult for you
- make sure to press them down gently with a cotton bud or your finger to ensure that the lash is attached.
