TikTok bogus doctor Matthew Bongani Lani takes the Department of Health to court for manhandling him.

Matthew Lani, a TikTok creator who gained massive popularity of over 300 thousand followers on the app where he gave them medical advice started producing weight loss supplements, is suing the department for manhandling him last year.

Although reports surfaced stating that he was not a qualified doctor, Matthew continued to assert his innocence, claiming that people had reported him out of jealousy for his accomplishments. However, all the schools he claimed to have attended during his medical education denied his attendance. The real Dr. Sanele Zingelwa also came forward with claims that the fraudulent doctor had stolen his identity, but Matthew insisted that Sanele Zingelwa was his real name.

According to ZiMoja, last year October, Matthew was arrested for going to Helen Joseph Tertiary Hospital, where he was allegedly doing his practicals for  a medical doctor. Although he was banned from TikTok his lawyers are suing the hospital for ‘unlawful and malicious arrest and detention’ by the guards.

The above mentioned source states that, according to the letter written by Matthew to the Department of Health, he is demanding R9 million worth of damage for last year’s incident.

The letter reads: “It is our instructions that on or about 29 October 2023, our client was maliciously and unlawfully arrested and detained by security personnel of Potlako Security & Cleaning Services stationed at Helen Joseph Hospital whose ranks are unknown to our client. It is our instructions that our client was wrongfully and maliciously arrested and detained without an arrest warrant at Helen Joseph Hospital.”

Matthew on the other hand claims that he was impersonating the role of a medical doctor to entertain people on TikTok and given his massive popularity on the app that can be believable.
