Rapper and Billiato premium alcoholic brand owner Refiloe ‘Cassper Nyovest’ Phoolo recently opened up on his album listening session about the song he wrote for the late rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes, that features on his latest album Solomon.
Cassper’s new album came out on September 15th, 2023, and features 11 tracks. The song dedicated to the late rapper is titled Candlelight and is track number five in the album. Candlelight details how the rapper felt after hearing the devastating news of AKA’S passing and how AKA’s family welcomed him when he went to pay his respect.
The rapper also mentions late rapper Costa Titch who fainted and died on stage while performing earlier this year.
Speaking at his album listening session, Cassper noted his need for honouring Super Mega (as affectionately called by his fans the Megacy).
He also revealed that, even though they didn’t get along, he’d be the first person to listen to AKA’s album when released adding that he is sure the Super Mega did the same.
Speaking of his decision to write a song for his former nemesis Cassper shared:
“It was a tough song to write, I never thought ever in my life that I’d be like writing a song about Kiernan in that light. It’s crazy like, when I heard of his passing, I couldn’t even express the pain I was feeling because of like our relationship. We hated each other, I mean I hated him till his last day. But like, I was shocked myself I was so sad, I realise like how important he was to me. I felt for his family, I felt for his kid.”
Cassper also added that he was very devastated and was up all night until 7am the next day. He also expressed how he couldn’t even share his sadness or share a RIP as trolls were already saying that he was probably rejoicing at the rapper’s death.
In the song Candlelight Cassper raps:
“When I heard it, I was just as hurt as the Megacy… Man our battle was the highlight, I was confused when you came and gave me high fives, a very important feature of my life. And you’re still shining, yeah, we see you in the starlights. You kept me focused of all, and all the bullsh%t that was said don’t matter at all. And all the comments from people who were never involved. It’s time to be on some real sh%t, and tell people you love them while they still live.”
The father of one also mentions Costa Titch in the song, rapping:
“Another candle for Costa, Big Flexa, my dude you were awesome. I know we had our little issues, we’re human.”
