South Africa’s courts have been hard at work lately as they have dealt with various cases involving some of Mzansi’s most notable names. Among these people is the infamous sangoma Gogo Maweni, who the public is unsure whether the charges she faces are for murder, assault or both.

Makgotso Mofokeng, who is famously known by her cultural name Gogo Maweni is a controversial sangoma who became social media famous after her appearance on Mzansi Magic’s Izangoma Zodumo, which looked to shed light and destigmatise the lives of sangomas. She has since capitalised on the clout from then and has become notorious for her no-nonsense attitude.

Recently, the sangoma was entangled in a social media controversy that began with popular TikToker Dominique Zaca and eventually escalated to a back-and-forth with fellow sangoma Gogo Skhotheni. This online beef took a dark turn when both sangomas decided that being the bigger person was something they were no longer interested in and resorted to coming for each other’s personal lives. It was then that Gogo Skhotheni revealed that there was much more to Gogo Maweni than what meets the eye.

Maweni’s rival revealed that the sangoma was facing multiple murder charges which she and her team were working tirelessly to keep under wraps from the public. During a TikTok live, one user who claimed to be Maweni’s former friend alleged that Maweni was responsible for her late husband’s tragic death.

Shortly after this revelation, it was revealed that Maweni had been remanded in police custody, facing charges of assault and grievous bodily harm against a relative of an ex-boyfriend. The controversial sangoma was denied bail after the court learned of a previous conviction, which she initially attempted to discredit and claimed she did know about. She is set to remain in custody until her bail hearing, which will take place on Monday, 27 January 2025.

Makhotso Mofokeng, also known as Gogo Maweni, is a well-known traditional healer who appeared in the Protea Magistrates Court on Monday in connection with a 2019 assault charge including the intent to do grievous bodily injury.

On top of that, some internet users have revealed that they believe that the sangoma is also involved in a total of five murder cases which are still under investigation. Although the news has not been verified, users appear to believe that Maweni would resort to such measures, as more and more unfolds regarding her personal life.

Clearly Gogo Maweni is not a real sangoma because why is she using guns to deal with people and not the bones she has so much confidence in? https://t.co/32GWdIfqMS pic.twitter.com/7ANZTruodV
