As technology advances and new techniques to change reality appear, AI (artificial intelligence) technology appears to pose a threat, following the recent Met Gala images.
The Met Gala, an annual fashion event that takes place in the US saw AI technology recreate looks for singers Katy Perry and Rihanna who never made it to the event.
The realistic images which have been circulating since the fashion event caused many people to believe that the absent celebrities were there. Rihanna did not make it to the event as she was sick and Katy Perry decided to fool internet users by generating AI images of herself there, posting them on her Instagram with the caption, “Couldn’t make it to the MET, I had to work.”
Although these pictures were created as a joke there are some dangers to AI as they can generate images of people in places that they have never been to which could lead to people getting into trouble.
Job-searching hub LinkedIn provides the dangers of AI:
- Behavioural risks: The hub states that AI technology is unpredictable in specific settings, adding that, products like cars that can drive themselves can cause a possibility of unexpected effects, such as power grid malfunctions in cities.
- Fail to shut down: The system may oppose shutting down, providing a risk if it functions beyond its intended role.
- Collusion potential: AI systems may behave against human interests, such as manipulating the financial market.
- Resistance to negative use: Potential for misuse by negative parties, such as an AI drone surveillance system that might endanger national protection.
