Fundiswa Nkwanyana tells us about her one-night stay at this elegant and artistic hotel in Morningside, Durban.
First Impressions
When I walked through the gates, I was welcomed by a striking red shipping container, bright yellow wire chairs and a lot of pot plants. As I got closer, I noticed that the container is, in fact, Freedom Café, a cosy eatery on the same premises as the hotel. I felt welcomed by the entrance area’s artistic urban flair and charm.
Check-In
I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by a casually dressed and laid-back guest relations officer who ushered me in towards the reception area. He kept our conversation light-hearted and informative; it was refreshing not to be addressed in a formal way while on holiday mode. The decor in the reception was trendy and elegant.
The Room
I absolutely loved my room, which had a dramatic rustic wooden headboard, hanging yellow wire chandeliers and white crisp clean linen. Even though the room was fairly small, it was decorated and sectioned in such a way that it felt spacious. Every corner had quirky decor elements that made it a modern luxurious haven. I felt comfortable and relaxed.

At Leisure
I love that the hotel is within close proximity to Florida Road, which is Durban’s popular hotspot for dining and nightlife. It is also close to the beachfront and city centre. I spent the day at the beach soaking up the sun and had dinner and drinks at one of the many restaurants on Florida Road in the evening. I felt safe and even walked to the nearby shopping centre for some retail therapy.
