1. Becoming Him – Landa Mabenge. This memoir details the life of Landa who was born in a body that he did not relate to – that of a girl. The book is written in an honest and vulnerable style that makes you walk in Landa’s shoes as he fights to reclaim his identity. The trials and tribulations of growing up trapped in the wrong body are informative and empowering for the reader.

2. If You Keep Digging – Keletso Mopai. This collection of short stories looks at the existence of Africans, from different walks of life, as they overcome challenges and celebrate triumphs. It’s written in a quirky and honest way that makes you connect with all the characters, even the bad ones. The stories also tackle important issues such as domestic violence, toxic masculinity and patriarchy.

3. The Eternal Audience of One – Remy Ngamije. This book follows the lives of various characters during colonial and post-independence stages in Rwanda. The highs and lows of diaspora and the impact it has on the lives of the people are highlighted in this book.
