A remote office needs to be functional before it can be beautiful. Fundiswa Nkwanyana tells you how to design it within small spaces, using minimal decorations.
Clever use of space:
You don’t have to close off an entire room to create an office. All you need is a quiet corner in one of your favourite rooms. If you live in a bachelor apartment, turn a portion of the flat into your workspace. It can either be by a big window or a section of an empty wall. This section must have adequate lighting, and be able to effortlessly accommodate a table and chair.
Tip: If your job has become permanently remote, install shelves above the table
Functional and decorative:
Pick a simple table and chair that complement each other. However, they must not divert attention from the overall decor in your home. So, make sure that they have similar colour palettes and that the legs have a similar design. The chair must be able to easily slide under the table when not in use.
Tip: Place a decorative cushion on the chair for comfort and height adjustment
Internet connection
Ensuring that your internet connections are smooth-sailing is crucial when working from home. For any emergency work purposes, this step allows you to make immediate and responsive decisions at the given time. Opt for the service that provides you with uncapped fibre at a reasonable rate, which also avoids you from needing to shift around your home for stable connection.
Tip: Check that the plug point is close enough for your gadgets
