Whether you’re lifting weights at the gym or going for a hike, exercise will give you the confidence that comes with a no-filter complexion. Plus, now that the warmer weather has finally arrived, it’s hard to justify those ‘oh I don’t feel like it’ excuses anymore.
‘If you belong to the latter group, and the cardiovascular benefits of regular exercise aren’t enough to make you get up for that 5am spinning class, maybe this is: working out is one of the best things you can do to maintain gorgeous, healthy skin,’ explains FOREO’s PR Manager for the MEA region, Daria Jelavic
Jelavic provides the following reasons why exercising means great skin health:
Better sleep = Better skin – While you sleep, your body – and your skin – go into repair mode. This overnight maintenance is best done if you’re sleeping well. So, when you expend energy through exercise, you give yourself the gift of a better sleep and ultimately, glowing healthy skin.
Breakouts? No stress! – One of the many factors that contribute to skin breakouts is the hormonal fluctuation that comes with stress. However, breaking a sweat triggers the release of endorphins that in turn reduces stress levels to keep you feeling and looking good. Simply changing your exercise habits won’t magically banish all breakouts but, when combined with adequate sleep, proper hydration and a healthy skin diet, a clear complexion is within reach.
Post-gym glow – An after-work out glow-up can be hard to imagine when you’re covered in perspiration and your face is tomato red. However, getting your heart rate up brings more oxygen-rich blood to the surface of your skin that, in turn, gives you vibrant, radiant skin.
Give acne the boot – All the heart-pumping goodness of a workout also helps to clean out your pores. Though it may seem counterintuitive, perspiration is good for acne. It offers your skin the chance to purge the dirt, oil and toxins that clog pores and lead to blemishes. Remember, it’s important to properly cleanse your skin before and after a workout to ensure you’re not undoing all the good you’ve just done.
It’s always best to work out with clean skin to prevent any dirt and oil that may be on the surface from making its way deeper into your pores and wreaking havoc. A simple face wipe is sufficient for this, and it’s easy to stash a pack in your gym bag. What happens after your workout routine is what really counts.
