Former Springbok rugby player Tendai Mtawarira has launched a collection of wines.
The much-loved South African rugby player has long-standing and renowned career on the rugby filed, where he earned himself the title of “The Beast.”
Tendai’s wine collection consists of his values and principles of excellence, resilience and passion. As a “secret wine lover,” the launch of the wine brand was a natural fit for the former rugby player turned businessman.
Tendai spoke in depth about his wine collection.
“I have been eagerly awaiting the moment when we could share details of The Beast Wine Collection, which is very close to my heart. Our mission is to offer a high-quality, locally produced wine to an extensive consumer market, and the production of this collection has represented a true labour of love over the last year. I am confident that everyone will enjoy the product as much as I have enjoyed the journey of producing this collection of fine wines,” he said.

Tendai has collaborated with SMCG wine to produce an elegant collection of wines to fit the essence of the Beast’s collection. It is sourced from four vineyards located in the Western Cape: Benguela Cove, Arra Vineyards, Holden Manz and Cape Point Vineyards. After working with the vineyards in a year-long process, Tendai has created a selection that resonates with the “Beast” moniker in palate, aroma and more.
The Beast collection consists of an MCC Brut, Syrah/Cabernet Sauvignon, rosé and a Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon. The wines can be purchased online at SMCG Wine. Tendai and SMCG plan to take the wine collection global, offering people the opportunity to savour the authentic flavours of the Western Cape’s wine region.
According to Food24, The Beast Wine collection is the first fully traceable wine collection in the world. Each bottle includes a unique and secure identification label in the form of a QR barcode to verify its authenticity.
The QR code indicates its origin and links to a website where more information about each wine can be found.
