Being active on a day to day basis is essential for everyone. Incorporating physical activity in your child’s life is just as important.
As parents you are able to shape your child’s behaviour towards living an active life.
The Sports Science institute of South Africa says that active movement is an essential part of the early stages of childhood as it is important for physical and cognitive development.
According to the Centres for Disease, Control and Prevention (CDC), which encourages children to be physically active for at least sixty minutes per day which is essential and this could range from informal activities, active play to organised sports.

It is essential to incorporate physical activity at a young age to set the foundation for an active lifestyle. Encourage safe and unstructured movement and activities as children love to play and be active.
Start by making physical activity apart of the family routine. This way, your child will have a solid foundation. The way that you could do this is by taking regular walks or by playing active games together as a family.
Another way to do this is to take your child to places where they can be active. Children love the freedom of being outdoors. Go on regular trips the park, a community centre, or any sports field where children can run around and make the most of their time outdoors.
Be positive about the physical activity that your child is interested in and encourage them to take part in different activities. Setting a good example for your child is also important. Try to life an active life yourself, so that your child can be encouraged to do the same.
