If you have ever experienced piles, you would know how uncomfortable and painful they can be.
According to Medical News Today, piles is another term for haemorrhoids, they are swollen veins in the lower anus and rectum. This swelling can cause localised inflammation of other tissues. They cause tissue growths in and around the anus and can lead to significant discomfort. These growths can vary in size and location.
Habits you should avoid that can cause the discomfort of piles:
Try not to use the bathroom only at your house
This is a difficult one as there is a great sense of comfort and relief when you use the bathroom in the comfort of your house. However, no matter where you are, if you need to use the bathroom, go immediately.
If you do not go when you need to and decide to wait till you get home to use the bathroom it can restrain your bowel movements. In the long run, when you restrain your bowel movements, it could encourage piles to flare up.
Sitting on the toilet for a long time
A lot of time can go by while sitting on the toilet seat, especially if you are scrolling through Instagram or paging through a magazine or newspaper. Unfortunately, the longer you sit on the toilet, the greater your chances of developing piles.
That is why you should rather leave your Instagram scrolling, meditation and newspaper reading outside the bathroom.
Not eating a high fiber diet
According to K Health, most adults should get between 25-31 grams of fiber each day.
Fiber naturally leads to more bowel movements, therefore, the more fiber you consume on a daily basis, the more regular and smooth your bowel movements should become. Thus, decreasing your chances of struggling with piles.
Consuming too much sugar
Sugar is one of the hardest things to stay away from, but it is necessary. According to Healthline, too much sugar can lead to weight gain, acne, type 2 diabetes, and can increase your risk of several serious medical conditions.
According to research, when you consume more sugar than usual, you would most likely experience constipation, and have some difficulty using the bathroom. When constipation occurs, it increases your chances of contracting piles.
