South African actress, casting director, and film producer Lesedi Matsunyane-Ferguson has opened up about losing her father Shona Ferguson.
The casting director sat down with Candice Modiselle as her guest on The Five Minute Call podcast, where she revealed that a part of her died along with her father.
“My heart been through a lot. It has been through a lot. Especially in the past couple of years. I mean we know that my dad passed recently, about a little over a year ago. And that still hurts and I mean there is a big part of myself that I felt died with him,” she said.
The actress also spoke about her relationship with her late father Shona Ferguson along with the rest of her family.
“I think I knew we were always close. So I don’t think I realised just how close we were until he left. And that was quite painful and I mean we are a very close net family to begin with. But not having that there and also just realising what he did for me in terms of guidance and how to handle certain things and diplomacy. I felt and I still do sometimes feel very lost and like a big part of me died when he left.”
She also mentioned how difficult it has been to navigate life without her dad.
“Trying to regain, trying to rebirth, that has been hard,” Lesedi added.
The casting director also expressed how grateful she is to wake although there were times she did not want to.
“I am grateful that I still wake up in the morning. There are times I never wanted to. There are times I literally go and say I am done.”
She also revealed how she is taking time for herself and focusing on herself along with the things that she loves doing.
