Karlotta Leibenstein, sometimes known as Carlotta Liebenstein, was a German countess who passed away in 1992. She gave her favorite dog, Gunther III, her whole $80 million fortune when she passed away. Gunther the German Shepard is now the richest dog in the entire globe because that money has been passed on to Gunther’s descendants.
Here is the twist, according to Town & Country, Karlotta Leibenstein didn’t actually exist. However, Gunther is reputed to be among the richest dogs in the world. What is the real story?
The entire narrative was created by Maurizio Mian, a descendant of the Italian pharmaceutical firm Istituto Gentili that Merck bought. The Associated Press stated in 2021 that “there is no evidence of a German countess” and that “the dog’s part appears to be little more than a joke that’s carried on for decades.” The countess, according to Mian, “was merely a fiction to publicise the ideology” of his institution, he told an Italian reporter in 1995.
Mian acknowledges that he made up Gunther’s narrative in Gunther’s Millions on Netflix. In the last episode, the truth is revealed. A German woman named “Karlotta” is depicted in the image above; she assisted Mian’s family with taxes. She was his mother’s close friend, but she was not a countess. (He withholds the name of the individual.)
The sixth dog in the Gunther dynasty is the current Gunther. According to the documentary series, Gunther VI is roughly five years old. We may fairly presume the most recent Gunther in the line is a little older than five because he was most likely not a puppy when he took over as the de facto Gunther following the death of Gunther V. He may be closer to the age of six or seven.
The original Gunther III, belonged to Maurizio Mian’s former girlfriend Antonella Signorini. Gunther III ended up having two parents: Maurizio and Antonella. After Gunther III died, Gunther IV took over in 1995, then Gunther V in 2005, and finally Gunther VI, who is in charge now, in 2018.
The story of Gunther is an interesting one and his Netflix documentary will make for a good watch.
