Rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes completed his 4th studio album and announced it on the day of his untimely passing. He passed away on the 10th of February 2023 outside Wish restaurant on Florida road in Durban.
He was laid to rest on the 18th of February 2023 in a private ceremony in Johannesburg.
Since the news of his passing his fans, popularly known as The Megacy have been anticipating his latest body of work, Mass Country.
Streaming platform Spotify held a listening session of the album yesterday.
“AKA’s new album, Mass Country is both a parting gift to his fans and a love letter to South Africa,” read the statement.

AKA’s mother, Lynn Forbes says, “Kiernan was proud of Mass Country. As a family it was a pleasure to see his music’s evolution over the years. He played us this album over and over again. We’re happy the world finally gets to hear it.”
The proudly South African album features a host of South Africa’s finest talent such as Khuli Chana, Blxckie, Emtee, Yanga Chief, Sjava and girlfriend Nadia Nakai. His team has been using his social media platforms to keep his fans informed and sharing exclusive footage of AKA working on this album.

“AKA was one of the few people who could be classified as a South African Hip Hop megastar and we are honoured to be able to continue to share his music with his fans both in South Africa and all over the world,” said Warren Bokwe, Lead Music Strategy and Operations for Spotify Sub-Saharan Africa.
According to Spotify, since AKA’s death his music streams have increased by a 743%.
