There is confusion in the Twitterverse once again after the app reinstated the famous blue tick for some celebs… even the dead.
After announcing that users of the app would have to pay a fee to retain their blue checkmarks, many celebs – such as Cassper Nyovest, Beyonce and Minnie Dlamini – got their verification sticker back a few days later.
One Twitter user claimed that DJ Zinhle, who was one of many who lost the blue tick, had paid for Twitter Blue. The DJ responded, “I didn’t. I just saw it’s back. Hectic.”

American actress, Bette Midler, was amongst those whose blue ticks were reinstated. However, it seems that it disappeared once again. Before it disappeared, she wrote, “Yes, Elon gave me back my blue check but I didn’t pay for it. Does that make me a good guy or a bad guy? I’m so confused. So far only 400 people have signed on to get their checks back. Guess #Twitter’s going thru an ‘unscheduled disassembly’, too.”

One Twitter user jokingly tweeted that users of the app made Twitter CEO Elon Musk fold. Radio host Sizwe Dhlomo replied to the tweet, saying, “He didn’t fold for everyone though. Some people didn’t get their verification back. I’ve read that you had to have over a million followers.”

Twitter has also reportedly verified the accounts of celebrities who have passed. When clicking the blue tick next to their names, it states that the account holder is subscribed to Twitter Blue and verified their cellphone number.
Celebs include basketball player Kobe Bryant, King of Pop Michael Jackson and even Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman.
Twitter nor Elon have provided a reason for the reinstatements.
