Planning a wedding can be stressful, especially for full-time job holders. You may find yourself drained and stressed when planning the ceremony, the honeymoon, and still having to perform your best at your nine-to-five.
It is important to not let pre-wedding anxiety bring you down, as your wedding day is likely to be the most wonderful and memorable day you will ever have.
If you find yourself in a situation where anxiety has you by the neck while trying to cope with life’s everyday demands, Elegant Bridal suggests you try the following:
- Create a self-care routine: Self-care and pampering are always good for reliving stress, and for those about to get married, they can be very beneficial. Elegant Bridal adds, “If you take the time to set up a simple, everyday beauty routine (whether for the evening or the morning), you can take 15-20 minutes to breathe and focus on yourself rather than the wedding. You can create other routines: for working out, planning, walking, doing a hobby, etc.”
- Try a meditation routine: For those who don’t meditate, setting aside just 15 minutes every day to sit down and breathe deeply may be good for you. It is, however, important not to try and “slow or influence your thoughts. Just focus on the air moving in your lungs, and you will start to feel calmer.”
- Sleep better: Lack of sleep pre-wedding will not only make you more anxious, but it will also impact how you look and feel on the big day. If we’re being honest, no bride wants that. If you and your significant other are already living together, invest in a quality bed right now. The key decision is choosing between a queen and a king bed and finding a mattress you both love.
- Understand where the anxiety comes from: Try to find out where the anxiety stems from and what triggers it. Elegant Bridal also adds that you should try and find out if there may be “aspects of the wedding or the planning that are making you especially nervous.” Is there any way you can delegate them or get them done once and for all? If you understand what situations or decisions cause a lot of anxiety, you can go into them prepared for the feeling. This will instantly make them feel less daunting.
- Talk to your partner: It is very important to talk to your soon-to-be spouse about everything that you are going through, as they may be going through the same or similar stress but not sharing it with you. Even if they are not, they might be able to make you feel better. Elegant Bridal adds, “Be open and honest about everything, and try not to sugarcoat how you are feeling. It will help you set some lovely foundations for your life together.”
