Wearing a bra that does not fit you properly and provides no support is not the reason why your breasts might sag. It is completely normal for your boobs to naturally sag over time.
Healthline explains that Cooper’s ligaments (the ligaments that support your breasts) will stretch over time and cause your breasts to sag.
Besides the above, Healthline provides more common reasons why you may experience sagging breasts.
Change in weight
If you are constantly gaining and losing weight, this can cause a loss of elasticity.
Exercise without support
If you do high-impact workouts without a properly supportive bra, this will cause your boobs to bounce, loosening the ligaments over time.
Genetics
This reason you may have gotten from your mama. Traits like skin elasticity, breast size, and tissue density play a role in how your breasts may look over time.
Gravity
Gravity can also take a toll on your breasts over time.
Hormonal changes during menopause
When you are going through menopause, it can bring in a decrease in oestrogen. This can cause breast tissue to lose elasticity.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Your breasts grow during pregnancy. When it grows, there is a higher chance for the breast tissue to stretch, and for the ligaments to become loose.
Smoking
The nicotine found in cigarette smoke causes elastin to break down in the body. This can then cause your skin to droop.
Jasmine Jones, an American bra-fitting specialist says, “If you want to decrease the rate at which your breasts migrate south, make sure you’re exercising your pectoral muscles.”
Try the following exercises to prevent your breasts from sagging:
- Cobra Pose
- Chest fly
- Chest press
- Dumbbell Pullover
- Pushups
- Travelling plank
