Thabiso Tshabalala, executive producer of The Braai Show with Cassper Nyovest says Scorpion Kings, which includes Kabza de Small and DJ Maphorisa, stole his concept, according to The South African.
Kabza de Small and DJ Maphorisa, members of Scorpion King, has received a letter of demand from an event organiser who claims they stole his intellectual property.
According to Sunday World, Scorpion King’s Live At Sun Arena by the Emcimbini hitmakers was the idea of Thabiso Tshabalala, an event planner and executive producer of The Braai Show with Cassper Nyovest.
One Night With Sjava, a well-known musical event hosted by Afro-pop musician Sjava, was organized by Tshabalala, who revealed to the media that he proposed to the producers to host the performance in Pretoria on January 4, 2020.
He further claims that he already had sponsorship and had reportedly secured Sun Bet Arena.
According to the South African, he soon learned that an event with the same name would take place in the same location on 22 July two years later. The businessman said that the performance did take place and that the two made R3 million from it.
“This was a breach of the verbal agreement with Mr Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe [DJ Maphorisa] and Mr Kabelo Motha Mahlangu [Kabza de Small], and our client further informed Mr Netshipise of same. Our client further instructs that the plans for the event halted when the country was placed under level 5 lockdown as part of the response to the Covid-19 pandemic,” reads the letter sent by Tshabalala’s lawyer to the DJs.
He had reportedly been trying to get into contact with the DJs for eight months but to no avail.
He further said that he would issue a summons to the DJs.
