Coconut Kelz, a character portrayed by satirist comedian Lesego Thlabi, shared her excitement about Natasha Joubert’s win for Miss South Africa 2023.
Sharing with BONA how she came up with the character, Lesego said that she wanted to express herself in a comedic way regarding South African politics.
In the video shared on her social media platforms, Coconut Kelz is heard saying, “Guys, she’s white. Finally, I feel represented! I feel seen.”
Referring to Miss South Africa and Miss Universe 2019 winner Zozibini Tunzi, Kelz continues, “It’s been a couple of years. There was this girl, Zonzi, Zinzi – she won Miss Universe. They say she has a German cut… I’ve lived in Germany for a year. I’ve never seen people with that hair in Germany.”
Lesego’s hilarious character then draws comparison to herself and Natasha, stating that they both have “sparkly blue eyes.”
Steering away from the Miss SA topic, Kelz then proceeds to talk about the Cape Town taxi strike.
“My gosh, the taxis are back. Guys, they’re causing havoc already. You know, the EFF and the ANC are behind this… I just wish the taxis would stay off the road.”
