DJ and record producer Themba Sekowe, better known as DJ Maphorisa’s assault case, has been reportedly withdrawn.
According to The South African the record prouder appeared at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 25 August, where he was allegedly informed by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) that the case has been withdrawn against him.
The news of his arrest comes after he was allegedly accused of assaulting his girlfriend Thuli Phongolo at her Sandton home this year in May.
After his first court appearance following his arrest, he was granted R4 000 bail, the actress also filed a withdrawal statement. However, the NPA decided to continue with the case.
According to Media 24 here is what NPA spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane, told the publication.
“We can confirm that the case against DJ Maphorisa was withdrawn after he lodged representations with the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions which were successful. He lodged representations, and upon studying them we then took a decision to withdraw [the charges].
“Remember that the complainant in the matter filed a withdrawal statement. So that meant we had to look into any other areas that we had to prove our case. Upon such consideration, the office of the director of prosecutions took a decision to withdraw the case,” NPA spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane said.
Although the DJ is yet to release an official statement he did however release a joint statement with the former Generations: The Legacy actress after the news of his arrest was made public. The pair stated that they will settle the issue quietly rather than pursuing it further.
