The Mnike TikTok dance challenge had the entire world on its feet since it took the popular app by storm. This is all thanks to one person – Rozette Makka.
A resident of Seaview Park in Langebaan, Western Cape, 17-year-old Rozette started using TikTok in February 2023. Two months later, she posted the choreography for Tyler ICU’s viral song.
When asked how she came up with the moves, Rozette told BONA, “The moment I heard the Amapiano song, I started to make my own moves… I told myself over and over again that I really want to create a dance to Mnike.”

Rozette posted a few more videos of herself dancing to Mnike, but it was the second video that gained the most views.

“When I uploaded the video, my cousin Zoe and I took turns to see how many views the video got so far. We told each other that the video would go viral. The next morning when I checked my phone, I saw that the video went viral. I was so excited to see how my video blew up!”
Millions of TikTokers and celebs have tried Rozette’s Mnike dance challenge. Out of them all, Rozette, who would like to become an influencer one day, shares that her favourite three were done by local TikTok influencers Neevan Ferris, The Junior King and BONA‘s June cover star Chad Jones, who shared a step-by-step video of the choreography.

Since her videos received immense popularity, Rozette’s life changed. She says, “Everyone started to look at me differently. Many people asked me to take pictures and even to make TikTok videos with them. I’ve never seen so many people greeting and loving me before and that made my heart smile.
“I’m so thankful for everyone… I’ve got so many people that encouraged me to go harder and to become what I really want to be one day.”
