There are many reasons why it is important for us to teach our children good manners. There is, however, no guarantee that they will stick to those manners when you are not around. Deterring knowing what is right from wrong is better than not knowing the basic foundation of it.
Below are three basic manners that children should have according to experts from US parent information hub Parents.
Say “Thank you” – “When you say thank you, you’re taking time to make the other person feel appreciated”, shares BSEd in education holder for Child Development Institution, and Ph.D. holder David Lowry of parenting information hub Parents.
Say “Please” – Please is one of the politest words for you to use. When introducing these polite words to your children, make sure that they understand the reason they have to use it. You should also stick to good manners at all times in order to keep using them. A good way to get your child to understand the importance of using the word “please” is if it is used often, adds David.
Say “Excuse me” – Interrupting a person while in conversation with someone else may be a sign of bad manners. Children may not know that it is our duty to explain this to them. You may also explain to them that if they are pressed for time and need to speak to you, using the words “excuse me” may be a polite way to do it, adds the above-mentioned parenting hub.
