The power of pets on well-being

Many individuals find peace and companionship in owning pets.

While pets can be a handful and require quite a lot of maintenance these furry friends can also aid to the wellbeing of their owners.

As a pet owner you are quite familiar and aware of the instant joy and affection that having a pet comes with.

However, many of us are oblivious to the health benefits that our furry friends bring to our lives as they continuously provide us with their companionship, company and cuddles.

An independent non-profit organization that runs the world’s leading mental health website, Help Guide states “pets have evolved to become acutely attained to humans and our behaviour and emotions.”

While we may think that our pets, especially dogs and cats cannot make out what we are saying to them, you’ll be surprised to know that pets can do understand a fair share of what we say.

Help Guide further explains that pets are quite excellent at interpreting human behaviours such as tone, gestures and body language.

The power of pets is that they are able to reduce stress, depression, anxiety and loneliness.

To the physical impact of humans To the physical impact of humans these pets that are usually very playful can encourage exercise or any form of activity in humans. This also helps with improving one’s cardiovascular.

Forbes – a global media company – further motivates that pets “can instill a sense of purpose” in human beings.

A study that was conducted in 2018 concluded that participants who had been living with a mental health condition and had lost their sense of purpose upon discovering their diagnosis, felt a significant impact of being in control of their lives and being intentional once they had a pet, Forbes states.
