The holiday season is all about unwinding and spending time with your family, not just your relatives at home but your work family too. No matter the race, religious background, sexuality, or area code, it is still possible to celebrate the closing of the year with all of your colleagues.
Avoid exclusivity in the workplace during holiday celebrations and embrace inclusivity with the following tips. After all, ’tis the season for all to be jolly!
Create a collaborative holiday calendar
Encourage your colleagues or employees to use a shared holiday calendar by adding the holidays they will be celebrating, suggests Best of HR – a publication for human resources (HR) professionals. This way, employees can learn more about one another and build better personal connections. The info hub added, “Make sure to set a calendar reminder notification so that everyone on the team is aware of the upcoming special day.”
Use decor that encourages diversity
Let your co-workers express themselves through multicultural decor and celebratory events. This may prove to increase employee productivity and encourage collaboration in a fun and relaxed setting, says Best of HR.
Keep the location in mind
HR Morning – a publication that highlights all things HR – states that the location of the office holiday celebrations is extremely important. “If it’s at the office, you know it’s accessible to everyone who works there. But what about the people who work offsite?”
Suggest fun, inclusive activities
“Instead, of doing Secret Santa gift exchanges, set up a photo booth, or organise a trivia game or scavenger hunt based on the company,” HR Morning suggests. “There are lots of ways for companies to inclusively celebrate the holidays with their employees. You just have to think out of the Christmas box!”
