Since the news of multi-award-winning singer Zahara’s death has been shared with the world, many have taken to social media to express their condolences, including a few local celebs.
According to the publication Sunday World, Zahara (who was born Bulelwa Mkutukana) passed away on Monday at 21h00 at a private Johannesburg hospital with her partner, Mpho Xaba, at her bedside.
Zahara, who was admitted two weeks ago after reports of liver complications, was transferred to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after her condition worsened, ZiMoja previously shared. A source close to the family reportedly revealed to the publication that the singer’s liver was scarred, and she was in need of a liver transplant.
Since the announcement of the Loliwe hitmaker’s death, many of her industry mates have taken to social media to share their condolences and memory of Zahara.
Media personality Minnie Dlamini shared on Instagram:
“My heart is so sore 💔 Not only was she an incredible talent but she had a heart of gold!”
Minnie added that the late singer was one of the few people who reached out and checked up on her when she encountered personal struggles. “We shared a beautiful bond of sisterhood that I will forever cherish ❤️ 2023 started with a legendary loss and it’s decided to hit our industry again!!! Rest in power and thank you Bulelwa for your indelible contribution to music 🕊️.”

Before posting an image of Zahara on Instagram, DJ Zinhle first took to X (formerly Twitter) to confess that she could not sleep due to the news of Zahara’s passing.

Collide singer Lady Zamar also shared her condolences on X before giving the late star her praise.
“Zahara did a lot for the music industry in south africa, paved the way for so many others with her icon presence and guitar in hand,” she wrote. “She will be missed. I never knew her personally but her music was loud and brave #ripzahara praying for her family. She was loved.”

Zahara’s close friend and singer Vusi Nova, who visited her during her last few days in hospital, shared his heartache of the passing by simply posting a blank image on Instagram with a broken heart emoji for his caption.
