The singer whose real name is Bulelwa Mkutukana was admitted at hospital in November due to liver complications.
After spending a few weeks in the intensive care unit, the talented singer who recently celebrated her 36th birthday was pronounced dead, on Monday 11 December.
The news sent shockwaves throughout the arts and entertainment industry, with many now reflecting on the impact that Zahara had on South African music.
While many have been calling for President Cyril Ramaphosa to organise a state funeral, minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Zizi Kodwa has been in contact with the family to offer his condolences and support.
He posted on X (formerly Twitter): “We spent the afternoon with Zahara’s loved ones. Our heartfelt prayers go the Mkutukana family, Zahara’s friends and the entire music fraternity. The passing of Zahara is a profound loss to the country.”
