During this warmer season many people are flocking to the beaches and pools to receive some much needed refreshment.
The summer season is also renowned for the experiencing lots of outdoor activities such as hiking, picnics and safaris, all of these give people a large number of exposure to the sun, and with this comes sunburn.
While the golden brown shade on your skin often compliments one’s appearance, the burning sensation that comes with it after a long day in the sun is never ideal. Not to mention the time when your sunburn eventually begins to peel off.
This often leaves your skin feeling rough and looking scruffy due to the uneven patches of light and dark marks.
If you are currently facing this situation, we have got a few simple hacks that can assist in getting rid of these unwanted sunburns fast.
Here are some options for you to try:
Aloe Vera
UK based health publication Benenden Health recommends the use of Aloe Vera. It is said that this well-known plant contains anti-inflammatory properties and provides the cooling sensation that are needed for instant sunburn relief.
“It also helps to rehydrate skin, quickening your recovery time and minimising that maddening itching!” writes the above-mentioned publication.
Compress with a cool and damp towel
Making use of a cool and damp towel is another way in which you can ease the irritation of the burn on your skin. When applied to the affected area, it helps by providing a soothing sensation that cools the body.
“Simply apply this cold compress to the afflicted area to help numb pain, alleviate itchiness, and provide instant sunburn relief,” explains Beneden Health.
Meanwhile, bathers are encouraged to avoid applying ice directly to the affected area as this could cause further damage.
Avoid your normal skin care regime
According to Good Housekeeping – an online lifestyle magazine – using toners, exfoliators and scrubs will only worsen the situation and cause damage to the skin. Instead, the better option would be to drink water. According to the Skin Care Foundation sunburn draws fluid away from other parts of the body and towards the skin, it is therefore best to drink as much water as possible or any drink with high electrolytes.
