In honour of his Grammy nomination, Limpopo-born amapiano hitmaker Musa Keys threw a send-off party with guests in attendance being some of Mzansi’s prominent celebrities. One A-lister who was there to celebrate Musa’s achievement in spirit was his friend AKA.
The party took place on Tuesday night at the Zioux Restaurant in Sandton, Johannesburg, with celebs such as Priddy Ugly and Bontle Modiselle, Zakes Bantwini, Mpho ‘Popps’ Modikoane, Anele Mdoda, Boity Thulo, Tshepi Vundla, Primo Baloyi, Robot Boii, and Ayanda MVP showing up for the Vula Mlomo star’s achievement.
The prestigious Grammy Awards show – set to take place in Los Angeles on 5 February and hosted by Trevor Noah – sees Musa being nominated for Best African Music Performance for his collaboration with Nigeria’s Davido for their song Unavailable.

Addressing the media outside of the celebration venue, Musa (born Musa Makamu) said that the late AKA would have been proud of his international nod. “He would have said, ‘This is delicious,’” shared Musa.
“One thing that AKA said to me that I really took to heart – when we were chilling – he said, ‘You know boy why I love your music, it sounds delicious.’ He said he loved my music because it is a flavour of everything. There is emotion, hype and hardness. I will keep that close to my heart.”
Musa added that AKA’s absence did not affect him. Instead, it inspired him. He shared with the media, “Whenever I listen to his music, I prefer driving around rather than sitting. I remember he tweeted, ‘Are you trying to listen to me or my buzz? Or are you trying to drive around the city listening to my music?'”
He continued, “That is what I am all about – trying to make music that will have people driving around and playing my music.”
