With Valentine’s Day being merely days past, Sonia Booth, wife of former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns soccer player Matthew Booth, says that she still believes in love.
The couple have been separated for nearly two years now, this comes after Sonia accused the former international footballer of having an affair with former colleague Bongani Moller.
In a series of social media posts, Sonia shared personal details about Matthew’s whereabouts, revealing that the father of two took his alleged mistress to Empangeni in Kwa-Zulu Natal on Valentine’s Day. She later also revealed that he baked Bongani a cheesecake on the eve of their son’s birthday.
Her allegations have since been denied by her baby daddy, resulting in the once-happy couple ending up in court.
While the incident may have occurred two years ago, Sonia has revealed that she is currently on the path of healing, yet still believes in love.
Speaking to local news and entertainment publication, SowetanLive, the 44-year-old spoke about what she is looking for in a man.
“My type? A type that will love me unconditionally, the type who will understand my love language, the type who will respect me and support me in all I do. The type who will understand I have dreams to pursue and bucket lists to fulfil,” she said.
The talented businesswoman who capitalised on turning her husband’s cheesecake incident into a lucrative Marula Cheese-cake brand added that she realised how important it was for her to ease on her posts to protect her character.
“Gaslighting can strip your dignity, self-worth, and self-esteem. I had to do the work – mind, body, and soul. I had to strip myself bare, introspect, and self-reflect. I started practicing self-care daily and self-love became my core, my love language. I know I deserve better, and I want nothing less.”
Meanwhile, she later told the above-mentioned publication that she and Matthew are still married and that their divorce process is ongoing.
