Founder of Durban record label Shobeni Khuzwayo has been hospitalised after being shot at his home with his son.
Shobeni founded Izingane Music Entertainment which is the brainchild of award-winning maskandi group Izingane Zom and discovered Ukhozi FM song of the year artist Khuzani Mpungose.
As reported by entertainment publication ZiMoja, Shobeni and his two children have been targeted in the ongoing taxi conflicts within their neighborhood, as he is now a taxi boss. This was not the first attack on their family; Shobeni’s eldest son recently survived an ambush at Zonke Izizwe Men’s Hostel in Vosloorus.
His youngest son Falabo told the entertainment publication, “We are still shocked about the attack because I don’t recall my father and Dlubheke having enemies. The family started the taxi business a few years ago and that is when we saw people started attacking our family. I don’t want to speculate and say it is taxi-related because I don’t have proof.”
Detailing the incident, Falabo said that he remembers his father taking a call outside and the gunmen approached and shot him multiple times adding that his brother was also impacted during this shoot out.
Speaking on the matter KZN SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda says, “Police in Nquthu are investigating cases of attempted murder following an incident in which two family members were shot on Monday, 26 February 2024, at Qhudeni area. It is alleged that the victims were at home when they were attacked by unknown people who opened fire, wounding them. Other family members managed to escape unharmed. The motive is unknown.”
