Known for his political contributions, Mmusi Maimane surprised many after a photo of his younger self made its way to social media users’ timelines.
The former leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA), Mmusi now leads the independent political party Build One South Africa (BOSA), founded in September 2022.
As the national election day (which the President announced to be Wednesday, 29 May) slowly but surely presents itself, Mmusi has put his focus on his political party. Internet users, though, put their focus on a throwback picture of the politician who, in his youth, was featured in the Sunday Times Magazine back in 2004.
The snap of the picture sees Mmusi – who went by his second name at the time, Aloysias Maimane – standing and holding hands with the late Precious Simelane and Kim Adams.
The X (formerly Twitter) user who posted the image asked in their caption, “Will Mmusi go back to modelling?”

Reposting the picture himself, the politician formerly known as Aloysias commented on his political party, saying, “I am happy to announce that @BuildOneSA will be on the ballot in 2024 and we will be contesting in national and provincial elections. ‘What’s up with you and Jay, man, are y’all ok man?’ They pray for the death of our dynasty like Amen.”
