Author and HIV activist Nozibele Mayaba recently took to socials to share her experiences on black tax.
Nozi, who is married to Sikhumbuzo Mayaba and welcomed their son last year, went on Facebook Live where she spoke about the effects of black tax within her family.
The TV personality, who has been candid on the issue of black tax, detailed how her mother always wants money from her and, although she notes that she doesn’t mind taking care of her family, she feels that the pressure of meeting other people’s financial expectations becomes too much.
Black tax is a concept which refers to money that you give to your parents, family or siblings as an obligation.
An X (formerly Twitter) user reposted this live on the app, allowing users to comment given that black tax is something that is said to affect the majority of people living in black households.

Another user showed her sympathy towards Nozi and shared that she was too selfish to allow her family in on black tax.
I am too selfish to go through such, feel for her though. My survival and livelihood come first, then my kids but to a certain point. Only way to stop family from using you
