After crashing into former President Jacob Zuma’s state vehicle on Thursday, a driver has now been charged with drunk, reckless and negligent driving.
The uMkhonto We Sizwe Party (MK Party) leader and his security survived the collision which occurred between Nkandla and Eshowe in KwaZulu-Natal.
As reported by Kaya 959, after the crash, the police took samples of the 51-year-old driver’s blood for further investigation. The results have not yet been shared.
The non-fatal crash comes after the Independent Electoral Commission (also known as the IEC) rejected former President Zuma’s newly established party from the ballot in the upcoming elections. The above-mentioned publication states that the IEC came to this conclusion as a result of the political figure’s prison term which does not make him eligible to run for President again.
Kaya 959 also reports that under IEC regulations, a person sentenced to more than one year cannot serve as a Member of Parliament as stipulated under Section 47 of the Constitution.

In 2021, Jacob was sentenced to 15 months in prison for contempt of court. He was released on medical parole after serving just two months at the Escourt correctional facility.
As a result of the IEC’s objection, many believe unrest is to follow while others have agreed with the decision made.
However, according to reports, the MK Party leader is set to appeal the decision to make sure his party has a chance of ruling the country.
