Earlier this year, Showmax Originals announced that The Mommy Club would return for a second season. However, the question remains: Is it worth watching? Let’s discuss.
The show portrays the lives of Johannesburg’s most glamorous moms, their nannies, and children as they navigate motherhood and family. However, it lacks the drama and authenticity that reality shows are known for.
The cast consists of Mrs Mops (former cast member of The Real Housewives of Johannesburg), Happy Simelane, Nunurai and Ratile, and the addition of two new moms, Nozipho Zulu and Jabulile Sande, with the unfortunate departure of Mrs Manche.
With seven episodes aired so far, I think they should just wrap it up as the women are not embodying the true essence of the show. Even though this season Mrs Mops was open about her family almost losing their home, some of the ladies are not as open about their situations.
Ratile, on the other hand, seems to be living a fairy tale life on the show, even though Happy has accused her husband of cheating.
She has also gone under fire for firing and later rehiring her nanny Barbara which made her topical amongst the ladies, as her nanny was candid about her experience at her boss’s houses, further explaining that her being fired was an unfair dismissal.
This season does not delve into the ladies’ personal lives, such as their families and marriages. However, Nozipho seems to be an exception. Her marriage was a topic of discussion when she explained in a recent episode that the plan changed.
Nozipho’s statement was directed to her husband taking a second wife, which she wasn’t happy about due to their eight kids and 17-year marriage.
We hope the season ends on a good note.
