Staff members from Walter Mokoena’s news and media company, The Joburg Post, reportedly claimed that the former SABC sports presenter is facing financial struggles.
This news comes after Walter’s employees shared with Sunday World that the media personality allegedly failed to pay them their monthly salaries, and they are frustrated with the empty promises made.
“In 2023, I joined The Joburg Post, excited for the opportunity to contribute to the company’s growth. However, what started as enthusiasm soon turned into frustration and disappointment as I, along with my colleagues, experienced a series of injustices and unethical behaviour,” shared a senior staff member with the above-mentioned publication.
The source added that when Walter (who shares a daughter with his ex, budding DJ Pearl Thusi) did eventually pay his team, the salaries were paid late and usually came after debit orders had bounced.
The senior staff member continued, “Despite our dedicated work, Walter failed to fulfil his obligations, consistently delaying salary payments and disregarding our concerns. His actions have not only caused financial strain but have also eroded trust and morale within the team.”
Sunday World also reports that employees shared that Walter displayed arrogance when it was time to pay them. They further accused the online news company owner of being abrasive, arrogant and indifferent when workplace issues were raised.

Another staff member stated, “Despite legal recourse and promises of payment, he has failed to honour his commitments, displaying a blatant disregard for justice and decency.”
It has also been alleged by another source that ever since his second divorce from Nosizwe Vuso — the daughter of former President Jacob Zuma — last year, Walter’s finances were in shambles. The source further added that Walter also financially struggled when he was dropped as the special advisor to Nathi Mthethwa — the former Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture.
