Local singing group “The Joy” is finding themselves on cloud nine following their recent performance with Grammy award-winning rapper Doja Cat.
The group recently left American crowds in awe after providing lead vocals to the rapper at Coachella this past Sunday.
According to the local entertainment publication TshisaLive, the group offered angelic vocals on two of Doja’s tracks, the first being Acknowledge Me and the other Shutcho with the incorporation of Zulu lyrics to give fans a taste of South Africa.
Speaking about what the moment meant, the group took to their social media to write:
“It’s been hard to keep this a secret! We performed with the amazing Doja Cat on Coachella’s main stage in front of 100,000 people! Thank you, Amala, or rather Zandile.
In an interview with the Sowetan the group’s lead vocalist Melokuhle “Duzie” Mkungo that they were all handpicked to perform at the event.
“Doja’s management team connected with our manager Sevi from Black Major. They told us this is something she had been wanting to do since she started following us on social media platforms a couple of years ago.
“We love Doja and screamed when we heard she wanted us to share the stage of the biggest festival in the world.”
The group later also thanked the rest of the team for allowing this dream to be made possible.
“You made us feel very welcome! And thank you to everyone who reached out after watching the stream from all around the world.”

Meanwhile, it is said that Doja is not the only high-profile fan of the group, so are singers Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson.
