One thing about club culture is that you end up spending more than you bargained for as alcohol tends to be more expensive.
An X (previously known as Twitter) user sparked a debate when he posted the price of a gin bottle at a high-end club in Soweto called Konka by comparing it to how much the bottle costs at your local liquor stores.
The gin bottle the user posted was the Bombay Sapphire London Dry Gin which cost R2k at the club when in reality it costs about R380. That would be a whole R1,620 of difference and profit the club made from its customers. Now looking at these prices would it mean that these clubs are ripping buyers off or is it a way of business?
Most clubs are known to sell expensive bottles and ciders as they have to pay for a liquor licence and other expenses if they are to sell alcohol.
The X user posted the receipt with the caption, “I’m judging everyone who goes to Konka. Y’all are idiots. Period!” Many users feel that people who spend that much money on alcohol are rich.

Another user agreed with the creator saying:
Na i agree with you, i dont know how many times I’ve been invited to go konka and rejected, there is nothing i hate spending money on like alcohol, id rather chill and drink in my house, this is pure domkom vibes, buying bombay for 2K?? No ways

An X user provided a breakdown of expenses that these clubs need to pay for.
You sit on a R10,000 couches, You listen to music by Top DJs , Safety, You were served by someone who needs to get paid too and the business pays rent to be able to accommodate or host you.
