The new Disney film Mufasa: The Lion King reveals South African actors John Kani, Thuso Mdebu and Kagiso Lediga as part of the cast.
Mufasa: The Lion King is said to be a prequel to the 2019 film, with Donald Glover as King Simba, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, John Kani, and Queen Nala played by Beyoncé Knowles-Carter reprising their roles, as well as newcomers Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Tiffany Boone, Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, Lennie James, Thuso Mbedu with Blue Ivy Carter, making her feature film debut as Kiara who is the daughter of Nala and Simba.
Director Barry Jenkins wrote music for the upcoming film alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda with the return of South African musician and composer Lebo M known for his music contribution in The Lion King adding additional music.
According to Kaya959, the upcoming film is, “The prequel about the rise of one of the greatest kings of the Pride Lands goes back to the African savannah where Rafiki tells Kiara—daughter of Simba and Nala—the story of her grandfather while Timon and Pumba add colour commentary.”
Comedian Loyiso Gola posted the cast members on his Instagram featuring the South African actors.
