Podcaster and content creator Penuel Mlotshwa, famously known as The Black Pen recently posed a question on his X (former Twitter) account, asking his followers if they knew where funds for the election campaign of the newly formed political party, Umkhonto Wesizwe were from.
The new party was formed in September last year, and since then, it has held major campaigns that have drawn thousands of people, including former ANC members.
At the MK’s forefront, is former president of the Republic of South Africa Jacob Zuma, who has been going back and forth in court with the ruling party for reasons associated with the formation of MK as well as Msholozi’s inclusion in the list of candidates for this year’s elections.
Trying to figure out who might be funding this fast growing political party, Penuel shared:
“Angilwi (I am not fighting)… I’m asking in earnest… Assuming that a decent national campaign costs R100mln to R500mln… where do you think MK is getting their funding? We are aware of those getting money from rich white people. Plus some get money from government. Where is MK getting money from??”

The question received many responses from people who gave different theories. One user tabled out his theory, commenting:
This is a simple question with a simple answer,
All the multimillionaires & Billionaires Jacob Zuma created in BEE deals whilst in ANC who vowed to remain loyal to Msholozi for his undying commitment to making a black child wealthy which he was persecuted for by Cyril Ramaphosa… pic.twitter.com/pXUv81Gdcv

An Umkhonto Wesizwe party member came forward to answer the father of six’s question, adding:
OK Penuel. The answer is simple. We are funding our own revolution. Monthly myself like many others I contribute R40 via stop order. We don’t have enough funds though that’s why we are not able to secure a venue for our National Rally & we pay for transport from our own pockets.

Another user note that it was the ANC who willingly advertised MK when it paraded the party in court battles, commenting:
MK didn’t even pay for an ad or anything. MK got its popularity because ANC is full of none thinkers. For 2 months straight they gave MK a platforms from court to night news channels
MK didn’t spend a cent to be popular, they just designed T shirts and followed Zuma everywhere
