Pearl Thusi’s butt-shaking performance leaves internet divided

Actress Pearl Thusi kicked off her 36th birthday celebrations in style this week, shortly after performing at the Friends of Amstel SA festival in Cape Town.

Dressed in an emerald green “Tyla-inspired” outfit, the Queen Sono star was ready to let her hair down and dance the night away. Taking to the stage, the DJ joined her fans while grooving to the set playlist.

Shaking her booty to the beat, Pearl appeared to be in her element and was thoroughly enjoying herself.

And yet, no matter what she does, the internet will always come for her. Sharing the video of Pearl’s performance at the music festival, X users (formerly Twitter) criticised her outfit, dance moves and her age.

“Them TV shows not working out really did a number on her career,” commented an X user.

Another brought up her latest career move as a DJ: “Tyla, Waffles, Thuli Pongolo, Cyan  influenced Pearl, she doesn’t present shows or act anymore ?….  this reinventing journey is hard to watch…”

Loyal fans quickly defended the TV personality. “It’s hard being a woman. Mina, I respect her grind. Bills needs to be paid bafe2,” said @SII_Manzini.

Despite the negative online comments, Pearl took things in her stride and posted a quote in response to her haters: “Dirty water has never stopped a plant from growing. Don’t let negative words stunt your progress, sis.”

The actress admitted she was “feeling a lot of big feelings lately…” in an Instagram post while celebrating her 36th birthday.

Sharing a photo of herself with her late parents, she said that she missed them. “And maybe crying on your birthday is ok- it’s all the love I still have for my parents yearning to be felt by them,” Pearl confessed.

As a final middle finger, the actress took a funny swipe at her detractors, thanking them for making it “possible for magazines to make too much money from clickbait.”
