In a twist of betrayal and greed, a 48-year-old nurse stands accused of masterminding a crime that shocked a community and rattled the foundations of trust.
Allegedly driven by a quest for financial gain, she purportedly orchestrated the murder of her 21-year-old domestic worker, Busiswa Nxumalo, all for the sake of getting R6 million in life insurance payouts.
The nurse, whose identity remains undisclosed pending her court appearance, allegedly secured three separate life insurance policies for Busiswa Nxumalo through Stangen Life, Outsurance, and King Price, naming herself as the sole beneficiary as reported by News24.
The tragic incident underscores a growing concern over insurance-related crimes, where individuals exploit policies meant to safeguard loved ones in times of need. According to News24, the nurse allegedly conspired to have Nxumalo killed, with the promise of substantial financial gain from the insurance policies she had taken out on the young woman’s life.
The alleged murder itself took place in January 2022 at the nurse’s former residence in Lenasia South, where Nxumalo’s lifeless body was discovered with signs of violence, including a slit throat, near the nurse’s previous home. The timeline of events suggests a calculated plan, as the insurance policies were reportedly initiated seven months after Nxumalo began working for the nurse.
The insurance companies involved became suspicious of the policies, suspecting fraudulent activity, and subsequently froze the payouts.
The nurse now faces charges of murder and insurance fraud.
