Singer-songwriter, record producer, and entrepreneur, Akon expressed his heartfelt admiration for the late South African rapper and dancer, Costantinos Tsobanoglou popularly known as Costa Titch in a Podcast and Chill interview with MacG and Sol Phenduka.
Before the rapper passed away in March 2023, he worked with various artists such as the late South African rappers Ricky Rick and AKA in the remake of Nkalakatha, originally by Mandoza. He also had a single with Akon himself, titled Big Flexa (Remix).
“When you looked at how he performed, the way he danced, you couldn’t tell me that Costa was not an African,” said Akon while in conversation with MacG and Sol.
Akon emphasized the late rappers’ potential to shape the future of music and culture in Africa. The singer-songwriter highlighted Costa’s unique talent and impact on the industry and mentioned that the late rapper was one of the 1st artists signed out of SA to his record label, Konvict Kulture and had a “recorded album ready to go.”
When asked by Sol if the album would be released, Akon responded: “That is for the mother to decide,” and that he wants Costa’s legacy to be built in a way that she wants it to be seen.
