Social media influencer twins Blue and Brown Mbombo are mourning the loss of their mother who recently passed in a gesture deemed by many as respectful, by shaving their heads.
Shaving one’s head after a loss is a very common African practice that has been around for centuries. As the years went by, some cultures eased on enforcing this practice, only allowing those who wished to shave their heads to do so.
Shaving off hair is not the only practice used to symbolise grief, as in some cultures the deceased family has to wear black clothes for a certain period or pin a button/ribbon on their clothes as a sign of mourning.
While the twins haven’t spoken much about their loss, Blue responded by telling local publication ZiMoja she was heartbroken as she was still processing her mother’s passing.
The former Big Brother finalist recently shared pictures of herself and her twin Brown captioned with a black heart emoji on her Instagram. This received a lot of comments from social media users who consoled the sisters for their loss while sharing how good they looked with their heads shaved off.
