The South African music landscape is filled with talented young artists ready to showcase their artistry. Among these artists is singer and songwriter -Sino Msolo, born Nondoda Msolo.
Recently, Sino was a guest on the Choppin It podcast hosted by Zingah. In this interview, Sino opens up about who he is and how his career got to where it is today. Specifically, the artist opened up about how a simple dm to the renowned Kabza de Small changed the trajectory of his career.
To put into perspective, Sino went on one of the greatest feature runs in any genre in 2021. “At the beginning of the year (2021), I said let me collaborate with bigger artists. How am I gonna meet them or manage to get to them? That’s up to God, but I’m gonna do it,” he admitted to the African report.
Featuring Kelvin Momo’s ‘MaDlamini’ helped the artist get on more people’s radars, which led to collaborations with amapiano giants such as De Mthuda and Kabza de Small.
A moment that Sino admits changed everything for him was after he sent Kabza de Small a dm via Instagram with a brief greeting. ” I dm’d Kabza and I just said ‘Hola’ and I left it there” he recalls. Although some of those close to him advised him to send more than just a greeting and be more direct, he trusted his gut and went against their advice.
To his surprise, Kabza responded to his greeting swiftly the next morning, and the two managed to coordinate a meeting time, which would be that same afternoon. The studio session was meant to be for one day, however, Sino ended up staying for a week because there was so much work to be done.
This was the beginning of the Sino we know today. He has since managed to capitalise on every opportunity handed to him in the industry. “This shows that you have to try everything out until it works out for you in the end,” the musician says.
The upward trajectory does not seem to be slowing down any time soon as the singer and songwriter recently released an 11-track album, categorised into Disc 1 and Disc 2. The album includes the hit song ‘Uzungandishiyi’ where he is alongside Kelvin Momo.
