Those who were hoping to see Malaika group members Tshedi Mholo and Bongani Nchang together making music again can forget the thought, as Tshedi has voiced out her unhappiness with the continued use of the group name after she exited.
Malaika, a popular group in the early 2000s was created by Tshedi, Bongani and the late Jabulani Ndaba.
They released their first album which warmed many people’s hearts in 2003.
After Jabu’s passing, Tshedi and Bongani tried to keep the group going but eventually had to go their separate ways, due to their differences.
Bongani, who remained in the group replaced Tshedi with singer Tsoake Molipa.
As reported by ZiMoja, it has now emerged that Tshedi is unhappy about the continued use of the group name Malaika as she shared when she spoke to them, “Malaika is our legacy; they must not confuse our fans and promoters because I get calls all the time from fans excepting to see me during shows.”
This is not the only issue the singer has with the new Malaika as she also voiced her unhappiness about the old songs which feature her voice in the background being performed as if she is a backup singer tothe current Malaika.
“They must remove my voice. I am an established artist. They can go back to the studio and record their new songs,” said the songstress before adding, “If they are trying to erase my legacy (in Malaika), they must think again.”
When contacted by the publication, Bongani shared he had enough of the songstress’ drama adding that when she joined Malaika he was already a music producer and that the songs she was complaining about were written by him.
He also detailed how Tshedi’s fans were bullying Tsoake adding, “The poor girl has been bullied by her fans who do not know the story. Tshedi gave me a go-ahead to continue as Malaika, and she released a statement declaring that she is no longer part of Malaika.”
