Despite being a 3-time nominee, one X (formerly known as Twitter) user felt that the Afrobeat category nomination was not necessary given that it was not her genre of music, adding that, African music was more diverse than just being labelled Afrobeats.
i don’t understand that afrobeats category by the vma’s. african music is way more diverse. tyla isn’t afrobeat. also was the category intended to spread light on african acts? if so, what is usher and chris brown doing there? africans being their features in their songs.
