The story of the TSHEPO jeans brand is one of resilience and perseverance, as the owner Tshepo Mohlala built the business from scratch, turning it into the renowned luxury denim and lifestyle brand we know today.
When Tshepo initially introduced his brand to the masses, the reception was not what he expected, as many did not believe that they would be getting good value for their money and that the designer was punching above his weight with his prices. Putting his head down and blocking out the noise, he continued to work and believe in himself until he could open a store in Hyde Park, Johannesburg.
Today, the business has expanded even further as Tshepo recently announced the opening of a new pop-up branch in Sandton City Mall, which will be open for the next six months.

The news of the expansion comes shortly after the brand shared news of their ‘We, The People’ t-shirt collection, which is an ode to the cultural heritage and diversity within the rainbow nation that is South Africa. “This is more than a collection of T-shirts. This is a rallying call and a promise to embrace our differences and build a community in which every voice is heard, every language is valued and every person is seen,” explains the brand’s website.

Inspired by a talk given by Lwando Xaso at the Constitutional Hill almost four years ago, the collection consists of t-shirts printed ‘We, The People’ translated into 12 official South African languages.
